 Vain Pride?

Once in California, USA, an elderly man was caught urinating on the side of the road by the police. They brought him back home and handed him over to his wife, instructing her to take good care of him and to not let him leave the house.

The man's wife thanked the police and lovingly took her husband inside the house. She repeatedly explained to him that he needed to take care of himself and shouldn't leave the house without informing her. She reminded him that he was old now and should try to recall his glorious past. He should refrain from actions that would cause embarrassment.

The elderly man whom the police had found on the road was once a renowned figure in American cinema. People used to long for just a glimpse of him. Such was his popularity that he even entered politics and emerged as the most powerful person in the world, becoming the President of the United States one day. His name was Ronald Reagan.

In 1980, Reagan became the President of the United States and remained the most powerful person in the world for eight years. During his presidency, he was even shot at. After spending many days in the hospital, when he returned to the White House, his popularity doubled. Reagan was one of the most popular names in America during his time.

After leaving the presidency, he returned to private citizenship, and everything was fine for a while. But soon after, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, and gradually, he lost his memory.

The body remained, but the memories faded. He forgot that there was a time when people longed for his presence. He forgot that his security was once the world’s greatest concern. After retirement, he forgot it all. The incident in America revealed to the world that the man who once ruled the world was no longer the same when his memories were gone. Although he was alive, his essence had perished.

Even the mightiest of things have an expiration date. Therefore, if one ever becomes prideful in life, it’s essential to take a walk to the crematorium, where some of the most exceptional personalities have turned to ashes.
